Replace traditional car keys and apply for eye scanning patent
2023-01-12
The "super power" that was supposed to exist only in science fiction films has been successfully developed and patented. Not long ago, Hyundai Motor released the latest patent information, showing that Hyundai and its subsidiaries will give up the traditional car keys and use eye scanners to open the vehicle.

In fact, since 2016, this Korean car has applied for at least five patents involving "iris recognition equipment" in the United States. The publicly displayed documents indicate that this function will be used to verify the driver's identity before the vehicle starts.

According to the designer, the technology will include "a camera configured to obtain eye image data" and "a computer program to extract this information".
However, at present, there is no timetable for the launch of the technology, and the existence of patent applications does not guarantee the design for production. You should know that many manufacturers often apply to protect their products to adapt to their future development, or to prevent competitors from stealing.

This is not the first time that the automotive industry has incorporated biometric devices into vehicle design. Previously, Mercedes-Benz developed a fingerprint scanner to unlock the door, but it was disabled for fear that thieves might try to cut off the owner's hand to manipulate the vehicle.
